How to entertain children during the winter or hottest times of the summer.
Introduction
When the little ones are out of school for the summer or not old enough to be in school yet, or if the weather is too hot or cold for them to be outside, or maybe just having a slumber party, this is a fun way to keep them entertained.
Instructions
Difficulty: Easy
Things You'll Need
- Large roll of paper from your local newspaper company.
- Craft supplies, crayons, paint, glitter, etc.
- Craft table.
- Stappler and staples.
- Scissors.
- And most important, Children.
Steps
1
Step One
Go to your local newspaper company and purchase a roll of blank paper, it's a large roll with a lot of paper on it. It's not expensive at all, and there are lots of things you can use the paper for.
2
Step Two
Use a long fold up table, like a craft table. The longer in length the better, especially if you have lots of children over.
3
Step Three
Unroll enough paper to cover the table with a few inches hanging over, just enough to tuck under the table, then tape it on the under side so the paper won't slip around.
4
Step Four
Place containers of crayons, markers, paint and paint brushes. Then turn the children loose to paint, draw, color or write whatever they want.
5
Step Five
Other craft materials can be put on the table too, like beads, glitter, glue, play doe, yarn, popsicle sticks, buttons and etc. It's so much fun to see the things their little imaginations can come up with.
6
Step Six
When they are finished they can put things away (together), and if they want to keep what they created on the paper, they can fold or roll it up. If they want to throw it away, they can fold or wad it up and toss it.
7
Step Seven
Another fun project they can do with the roll of paper is to unroll the paper on the floor (not the carpet) and let each child carefully lay flat on the paper with arms and legs spread a few inches away from the body.
8
Step Eight
You or one of the other children will draw the outline of the body, draw the outline about 4 to 6 inches away from the body. Do this twice per child.
9
Step Nine
With your help let the children cut out their outlines of their body with scissors.
10
Step Ten
Now that each child has a front and back cutout of their body they can each paint or color faces, hair, cloths and even belts and jewelry on them. Front and back.
11
Step Eleven
The next step is for the children to wad up a bunch of small pieces of paper off the roll of paper. Set aside.
12
Step Twelve
Now place the front and back of the painted paper bodies together (back and front showing) and staple the edges.
13
Step Thirteen
About every 12 inches or so stop and stuff the wadded up pieces of paper into it, repeat until the whole paper body is stuffed and stapled.
14
Step Fourteen
This is really fun for parents day at school. Have each child place their paper body in the seat of their desk. It is really cool to see the faces of the parents when they walk into the classroom.
Overall Tips & Warnings
- The children can glue yarn on the head for hair and even put barrettes in the hair for the girls.
- If it's the end of the school year the children can have other classmates sign each others paper body.
- You or the older children should help the younger children with the scissors and stapler, they can hurt themselves with them both.
