How to choose the right rap to karaoke to
Introduction
You're at a karaoke bar with a bunch of friends and you want to impress them with your rap skills. But you're not sure what song to pick and not too sure of whether or not you have skills. What do you do?
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderate
Things You'll Need
- Confidence
- A karaoke bar
- A few alcoholic drinks
Steps
1
Step One
Find a fun karaoke bar that has alcoholic beverages that you enjoy. If you're a hard alcohol drinker only, you don't want to end up at a wine bar that has karaoke (although I've never seen one of these). The alcohol will help take off the edge of "performing".

Step Two
Choose a rap that is not too difficult. This sounds simple and intuitive, but it isn't! As much as you might rap in the shower while listening to the radio, karaoke is a totally different experience. As a beginner, DO NOT choose Notorious BIG (quick, difficult lyrics), Ja Rule (raspy voice, also quick at times), and others of that kind. Suggestions: Digital Underground (Humpty Dance), 2 Live Crew (So Horny), Vanilla Ice (Ice Ice Baby), Sir Mix A Lot (Baby Got Back). Much slower raps, and the audience will DEFINITELY get in to it.

Step Three
If you are there with female friends, bring them up as BACKUP DANCERS! This will take some of the attention off of you, and make it seem like you are a performer. Score!

Step Four
If you have a prop (e.g. big nose for Shock G, bandana, parka, etc) that fits the rap, WEAR IT! Again, this takes a bit of the attention off of the vocals, and scores you major "performance" points with the crowd.
5
Step Five
Just get up on stage and be confident. Don't worry about how you look or sound. If you don't have the rap memorized, read the screen. With the dancers and the prop, your voice only has to be average for you to impress. Make sure you strut around the stage a bit too, just like a rapper would. You're a star!
