Difficulty: Challenging

Steps

1

Step One

Select a good topic. Make sure it is a pertinent subject to the area of study, of interest for graduate school and of personal interest. Make sure it is a new topic or theory, one that will be challenging to uncover.

2

Step Two

Find a faculty advisor. Have a professor who knows much about this topic oversee the project throughout its completion. Even if it is not required, a professor can provide invaluable feedback about areas of research, process and writing technique.
3

Step Three

Research the subject endlessly. Find as much information as possible on the subject, and then narrow down to the most relevant to the subject of the thesis. Make sure to cite all sources in proper format.
4

Step Four

Enroll in a relevant course. Many colleges offer a thesis course, take advantage of that. If planning on going to graduate school, the knowledge could be invaluable.
5

Step Five

Be familiar with all the components of a thesis paper that are necessary. These will include a title page, abstract, table of contents, introduction, body of text, conclusion and references. The proper format of the paper is very important for a thesis.
6

Step Six

Edit, revise and get input from a professional. Besides an academic advisor, ask other professors to read through the paper, or take advantage of writing workshops and help labs offered by many colleges for free.
