How to Wrap a Child's Birthday Present

Introduction

If you have kids, they probably get invited to lots of birthday parties, which means lots of presents need to be wrapped. Engage them in the process by coming up with creative, alternative ways to wrap a child's birthday present. You don't have to use themed gift wrap and stick-on bows. Follow these suggestions for some great ideas and some family fun along the way.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You'll Need

  • Brown package paper
  • White butcher paper
  • Tempera paints
  • Markers
  • Aluminum foil
  • Twine, rubber bands, stickers

Steps

1

Step One

Cut a piece of brown mailing paper the appropriate size for the package. Decorate with markers or tempera paints and let dry, then wrap the present.
2

Step Two

Cut a piece of white freezer or butcher paper. Lay it shiny side down. Pour tempera paints on plastic or old china dinner plates. Have kids press their hands into the paints. Make hand prints on the matte side of the butcher paper. Let the paint dry and wrap the presents.
3

Step Three

Trace 12 hands onto assorted colors of construction paper and cut out with scissors. Staple together at the base to make a bouquet of "hands" and attach to the top of the hand-print-wrapped present instead of ribbon.
4

Step Four

Save the colored comic section from the Sunday paper. Wrap the present in the funnies and festoon with abundant curling ribbon.
5

Step Five

Dress up smaller package in a t-shirt of the child's favorite sports team or character. Slide the package into the t-shirt and gently knot the shirt at the hem and at the neck. Tuck the sleeves in and back.
6

Step Six

Grab the aluminum foil for a quick, last minute wrap. Fold the edges and press down on smaller packages and you won't need tape. Use ribbons, stickers, twine, or make a "ribbon" topper with a fist full of rubber bands from the utility drawer.

Tips & Warnings

  • Before putting little hands in paint, rub on a little hand lotion. The paint will wash off easier.
