How to Wrap a Candle With a Textured Wax Design
Introduction
Make a boring candle exciting! Add texture with this easy trick.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Steps
1
Step One
Find a suitable mold. Anything with an interesting texture will work provided you can remove wax from it easily.
2
Step Two
Look for things such as the inside of a sheet of corrugated plastic, a sheet of crumpled aluminum foil, or a specialty mold made for this type of project.
3
Step Three
Be sure that whatever you use can be enclosed to keep the wax from running out. Aluminum foil is good for making walls.
4
Step Four
Coat the mold with silicone spray.
5
Step Five
Pour melted paraffin wax into the mold.
6
Step Six
Remove the wax carefully while it's warm and still pliable.
7
Step Seven
Use a paintbrush to apply melted wax as an adhesive and wrap the wax "skin" around an existing candle (pillars work best).
8
Step Eight
Trim the excess wax while it's still warm. A razor blade or sharp knife works well.
Tips & Warnings
- Add color to the melted wax if you wish. (See Related eHows.)
- Keep the "skin" fairly thin to make it easier to manipulate.
- Don't pour hot wax down your sink - it will cool there and plug up the pipe.
- Wax is flammable at high temperatures and should never be left unattended.
- Use a fire extinguisher or baking soda rather than water if you have a wax fire.
- Paraffin wax will catch fire at 375 degrees F. Flash points for other types of wax vary.
