How to Weed a Garden
Introduction
It is necessary to weed a garden both when you are preparing to plant and throughout the season to keep up a good appearance. If you weed the garden frequently, it is a simple process.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Steps
1
Step One
Spray the entire surface of the garden with a liquid weed killer 5 days before you plant. This will allow you to start with a weed-free garden and will lessen necessary maintenance throughout the season.
2
Step Two
Pull out remaining weeds 1 day before planting. The weeds will likely be dead and brown brown but it is best to remove them before you plant your garden.
3
Step Three
Scan your garden daily for new weeds. Pull out any that appear, making sure to get the root out. Daily checks make it easy to remove weeds as they won't have time to grow deep roots.
4
Step Four
Remove large weeds with a small hand shovel or specialized weed digger. Grasp the weed by the stalk near the ground, dig into the soil about 2 inches away from the base and pop the weed out of the ground with the shovel while pulling up on the stalk. This technique removes the whole weed root so it won't grow back.
5
Step Five
Dispose of weeds in a sealed garbage bag. If you leave them out to compost, they could regrow in the soil or spread their seeds back into your garden.
