How to Visit the York Dungeon
Introduction
York is a Roman city with a colourful and sometimes grizzly past. The York Dungeon brings this history to life with live actors, special effects and rides designed to scare even the bravest visitor. Learn the story of Dick Turpin, meet the ghosts of York, hear tales of Vikings, see implements of torture, be sentenced by an 18th century judge, get lost in the Labyrinth and try to escape the plague--all in one visit!
Instructions
Difficulty: Easy
Steps
1
Step One
Choose a date to visit. Weekends and school holidays at the Dungeon tend to be more crowded, so avoid them and come on less popular days for a more relaxed experience.
2
Step Two
Choose early or late times for your visit to get the best prices. The earliest and latest time slots are considerably cheaper than those in the middle of the day. Visiting at these times will also help you avoid the crowds so you'll get more out of your trip.
3
Step Three
Book tickets on the website for Fast Track entry. The York Dungeon is a popular attraction, and queues can be quite long, so buy Fast Track tickets from the website to ensure a swift entry through a special entrance. Be sure to print your confirmation email to take with you on the day.
4
Step Four
Plan your travel. The York Dungeon is on Clifford Street, just ten minutes walk from York Rail Station and five minutes walk from the Rougier Bus Station. Car parking is available in the nearby St. George's Field public car park.
5
Step Five
Arrive on time. With your Fast Track ticket, you will have an allotted time for entry to the Dungeon. If you miss your time slot, you may be allowed entry during the next time slot (subject to availability), but if you have an off-peak ticket and end up in a peak time slot, you will be charged for the upgrade.
6
Step Six
Report to the Fast Track entrance. At busy times, there may still be a wait, but a Fast Track ticket gives you priority over the main queue, so be sure you go to the right entrance. Present your confirmation and credit card to be given entry.
7
Step Seven
Prepare to be scared! The tour (including rides and attractions) should take 1 to 1 1/2 hours, so get ready to be frightened and have fun.
8
Step Eight
Visit the Gift Shop at the end of your tour to take home a gory souvenir.
