Introduction

The Wolfe Creek meteorite crater was formed 300,000 years ago by a giant meteorite crashing into the ground at a speed of 10 miles per second. This fantastic landmark is a popular tourist site in the Kimberly region of Australia. Visiting the magnificent formation can make for a wonderful vacation.

Steps

Step One

Drive to Halls Creek on the Great Northern Highway. This is 430 miles from Broome, Australia.

Step Two

Travel down the Tanami Road. This 90-mile drive will take you to the Wolfe Creek access road. Be warned that is not in the best condition, but it is accessible even for vehicles that do not have four-wheel drive.

Step Three

Take an aerial tour. If you do not want to drive 90 miles over a rough road, you can buy a helicopter tour out of Halls Creek.

Enjoy the view. From the ridge of the Wolfe Creek crater, it seems like you can see to the end of the world.

Visit the Wolfe Creek crater in the early morning or evening. The wildlife is the most active at these times.
