How to Visit Caernarvon Castle
Introduction
Caernarvon Castle gained important prominence when HRH Prince Charles was crowned Prince of Wales in the late 1960s. More importantly, this castle was said to have been built upon the ideals of the wizard Merlin by King Edward I. Many Roman and Celtic fortresses had been built in this area of Wales prior to this castlea??s construction. One of the most interesting facts about this castle is that its construction took a mere four years to complete.

Step One
Getting to North Wales can prove a little difficult if travelling by tube to get to the National Rail services. There are national rail trains to North Wales from Euston Station. Alternatively, you can take one of the many overland trains. Or if you prefer to drive, there is short term paid parking available near the castle.

Step Two
Pay for admission. As this is a World Heritage site, there will be an admission fee. You can also enjoy a lovely picnic on the castle grounds, but you cana??t smoke and for a fee and with permission you may bring your camera.

Enter the castle and be drawn back through time! Youa??ll see and understand why it was so important to King Edward I to have this castle built not only to revere glorious British Kings of the past but to reflect the changing values of the English as they took over Wales.

Observe the rounded, circular shapes on the towers which at the time differed greatly from the angular Welsh architecture. As King Edward was intrigued by the legendary King Arthur and wanted Caernarvon Castle to reflect the triumphant leadership and wisdom of the Camelot era, so the castle was built. During his reign, King Edward I had intended that this castle be the seat of power and center of government in the newly taken over region of Wales.
