How to Vibrate Your Eyeballs

Introduction

If you've ever seen someone who can make their eyes shake or vibrate inside their eye sockets, you know it's a neat trick. Nystagmus is the technical term for this eye movement and is usually involuntary. Those who can do it on demand, practice voluntary nystagmus. If you like to surprise or shock people who haven't figured it out, try teaching yourself to shake your eyeballs.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You'll Need

  • Eyeballs
  • Something to focus on

Steps

1

Step One

Focus your eyes on a certain object in the room.
2

Step Two

Blur your vision just a bit while concentrating on your eye muscles. Try to "stiffen" the muscles in your eyes to move them back and forth rapidly.
3

Step Three

Cross your eyes a little more if you are unable to make your eyes move.
4

Step Four

Try concentrating on one eye if you are having trouble with this. Try crossing one eye and "stiffen" the muscle in the uncrossed eye to shake it.
5

Step Five

Find a friend to show this trick to in order to see if you are performing it correctly.
6

Step Six

Keep trying and experimenting with positioning your eyes in different ways to get your muscles to do what you want them to do. It might take a while before you get the hang of it and find that sweet spot where your eyes will vibrate.

Tips & Warnings

  • You'll know if you're starting to get it if you see the object you are focusing on vibrate in front of you.
  • Don't worry if you've tried and tried and you can't seem to get your eyes to shake. The world is full of people who can't vibrate their eyeballs, and you just might be one who is genetically incapable of doing it.
  • Rest your eyes for awhile after trying this so you don't strain the muscles in your eyes and give yourself a headache.
