How to Use the Bathroom at the New Orleans Jazz Fest

Introduction

Ita??s inevitable: with all the merriment at the New Orleans Jazz Fest youa??re going to have to use the facilities. Youa??re going to be eating and drinkinga?|and drinking. Believe it or not, you need a game plan. Nothing could be worse than having to wait on a long line if youa??ve really got to go.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You'll Need

  • A map
  • A plan
  • A gas mask
  • Patience

Steps

1

Step One

Go to the bathroom first thing. There are port-o-potties at the entrance to Jazz Fest. Not the greatest way to go, but youa??ll get it out of the way for longer. And those port-o-potties will be more a??hospitablea?? early on in the day. Wea??re talking 80,000 people using the bathrooms throughout the day.
2

Step Two

Dona??t wait. As soon as you feel it coming on, go to the bathroom. You really, really dona??t want to have to wait if the issue isa?|pressing. Ita??s a fact of life, these things need to be covered. This is also very important if youa??ve got kids.
3

Step Three

Go to the second floor of the Grandstand: short lines and you can wash your hands, an absolute luxury when it comes to Jazz Fest bathrooms.
4

Step Four

Dona??t go where the lines are the longest. People are lazy and tend to converge where the most people are waiting. There are likely to be shorter lines.
5

Step Five

Join the Big Chief VIP Experience: full on VIP treatment, including backstage passes and possibly the thing that makes it most worthwhile: air conditioned bathrooms.

Overall Tips & Warnings

  • Bring baby wipes. There isna??t a great way to wash off at port-o-potties. Youa??ll want to use them throughout the day, like washing hands after a meal without having to head to the bathroom.
  • Stash some toilet paper if you use the bathroom early on. Jazz Fest organizers try to keep up, but toilet paper can run out.
  • Keep a map with you so youa??ll know where the bathrooms are at all times.
