Wiccan symbols are drawn from a variety of traditions. European, Middle Eastern and even Native American symbols have meaning in Wicca. They speak to the unconscious mind and conjure feelings and thoughts that connect you to the goddess and god. They're also powerful tools in magic.

Step One

Familiarize yourself with the basic symbols that every Wiccan recognizes. The pentagram, five-pointed star, is often used in ritual and symbolizes the five elements: earth, air, fire, water and spirit. Representations of the goddess and god can be carved onto candles and drawn on paper or the ground for rituals and magic.

Step Two

Learn about tradition-specific symbols. Decide which ones speak to you and use them in spells. Many Wiccans are moved by the intricate Celtic designs symbolizing the goddess's three aspects: maiden, mother and crone. The 7-circuit labyrinth symbol, prevalent in European and Native American cultures, is a sign of spirituality.

Use Runes in ritual, magic and divination. Scott Cunningham has a chapter on Rune magic in his book "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner." They're easy to draw but you can also find them painted on beautiful stones. These are easier to use in divination.

Find your own symbols. Be alert to images you see in magazines, on websites, in paintings and on home decorations. Play with the ones you feel an intuitive connection to. Using symbols you've created are a powerful way to express your connection to the god and goddess.

Use symbols in your spells. They help you connect your energies and thoughts towards your goal. You can knit or cross stitch the symbols and trace them with your fingers . They can be carved into candles or drawn on paper. Try creating them during the spell for an even more powerful experience.
