How to Throw a Draw in Flying Disc Golf

Introduction

So you have a giant boulder and several pine trees blocking your line to the pin. It's no problem when you use the draw shot, which curves from right to left (for a right-hander).

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Steps

1

Step One

Grip the disc as you would to throw a backhand toss (see "eHow to Throw a Flying Disc Backhand").
2

Step Two

Keep your feet perpendicular to your target.
3

Step Three

Bring your throwing arm across your body.
4

Step Four

Tilt your wrist slightly up so the disc rests at an angle of 15-30 degrees in your hand.
5

Step Five

Hold the disc close to your waist.
6

Step Six

Drop your throwing shoulder several inches below your nonthrowing shoulder.
7

Step Seven

Throw the disc in a down-to-up motion. Your hand should finish the throw above your eye level.
8

Step Eight

Lean back a bit at your waist as you release the disc.

Tips & Warnings

  • Pay attention to how much you bend your wrist. If the disc is flopping onto its side and rolling soon after you release it, you are probably using too much of an angle.
  • Exaggerate the throwing motion. By exaggerating the motion, you'll slow down your arm speed and realize how the throw is different from your typical backhand toss.
