How to Spend a Day at Lake Powell
Introduction
Lake Powell is full of fun activities and adventures. With so much to do and so little time in just one day, you'll have to narrow down your choice of activities. Jumping into the water is likely the best activity at Lake Powell. After all, what is a day at the lake without getting wet? Here are some ideas to make the most of your day.
Instructions
Difficulty: Easy
Steps
1
Step One
Spend time in the water. Lake Powell is a great place for boating. Take your own boat or rent a boat from a local marina. If you have only one day, you definitely want it to be a wet one. This is a gorgeous lake, and being on a boat lets you see the scenery more than any other activity.
2
Step Two
Skim the lake on water skis. You'll find plenty of great spots for water skiing at Lake Powell. The water is perfect for all levels of skiers.
3
Step Three
Go swimming at one of the many beautiful shores along Lake Powell. Boat to a more secluded beach for swimming, or use a public access beach. Either way, the water will be great. Toward the end of summer, water temperatures average 80 degrees Fahrenheit. The weather is cool enough to be refreshing, yet warm enough to enjoy.
4
Step Four
Go fishing. Lake Powell is home to several types of game fish. Trout, walleye, crappies and bass are among the popular fish in the lake. March through November is the prime time for fishing. Obtain a license at a local marina and check out catch limits and fishing regulations while you are there.
5
Step Five
Try your hand at a kayak or canoe, which you can rent at the marinas. You can also sign up for kayak and canoeing tours, which are a fantastic opportunity to see some of the beautiful canyons and sites at the lake.
6
Step Six
Take a boating tour if you are timid about maneuvering your own watercraft. Choose from several tours that vary in length. For schedules, call Wahweap at (928) 645-1070 or Bullfrog at (435) 684-3000. Smooth-water rafting is also a great option that is safe and fun for the entire family. Call (800) 528-6154 or (928) 645-3279, or write Wilderness River Adventures, P.O. Box 717, Page, Arizona, 86040 for more information.
