How to Register to Vote in Colorado

Introduction

Colorado has two ways to register to vote, either by mail or in person. Colorado State Senator Ken Gordon believes a??If you dona??t participate, someone else will control your childrena??s education, the safety of your community and the air you breathe.a?? So take an active part and vote. You can register to vote in Colorado by following these simple steps.

  • Acceptable form of identification
  • Physical mailing address

Steps

Step One

Meet the criteria to register. You can register to vote if you will be 18 by Election Day, be a resident of Colorado and a U.S. citizen and lived at your place of residency 30 days prior to the election.

Step Two

Fill out the registration form. You may fill the application out online before you print the form. The application is a simple one-page form. The application cannot be processed without the address where you live and verification of identity.

Step Three

Mail or deliver the application form in person to your county clerk. In order to vote in an election, the application must be postmarked or delivered in person 29 days before the election to the county clerk and recorder's office.

Step Four

Identity must be verified before your application is complete. You may mail a copy of whichever identification you choose to use such as Colorado drivera??s license or Colorado State ID card. If you do not have either of these forms of identification, you may still apply using an alternate form of identification. Call or check online to see the alternative forms of identification you may use.

Receive your voter identification card in the mail.

Check your voter identification card carefully for errors. Correct any errors and return it to the county clerk or county recorder office immediately if something needs to be fixed.

Tips & Warnings

  • When filling out the application by hand to vote, print clearly and use black ink.
  • Colorado does not accept a Social Security number as a legal form of identification for voting by mail.
