How to Raise Money for a Non-Profit Club

Introduction

Raising money for any type of non-profit organization can be challenging. But with the right type of event, any club can easily meet their fund raising goals. The key to making money is knowing your target audience and selecting activities that will appeal to them.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Steps

1

Step One

Talk to a local restaurant in your community about donating a portion of their sales to your club on a specific day. Your group will promote the event and drive customers into the restaurant during what is normally a slow period for them. Print the details of the special along with the name of your club on some flyers and hand them out, asking people to turn in the flyer when paying their bill. The cashier can write the amount of the bill on the back of the flyer and set it aside. At the end of the day they can total up the sales and calculate how much money they owe you.
2

Step Two

Hold a dog wash instead of the standard car wash. Find a local business willing to give your club use of their parking and make sure they have access to water and an area you can close off to all car traffic. Charge different fees for small, medium and large dogs and set up a jar for tips.
3

Step Three

Hold a cow pie bingo contest. Have a local farmer donate an acre of a fenced in field and the use of a cow for the event. Mark the field off with chalk lines similar to the grid on a bingo card. Sell each square for $10. When all the squares are sold, set the cow lose in the field and whoever purchased the square where the first cow pie lands is the winner. Determine the amount of the payout based on how many squares you sell. On a 1-acre field, you could potentially sell hundreds of squares, making this a very lucrative moneymaker for your club.

Step Four

Hold an ice melting sweepstakes if you live in a northern climate with freezing winter temperatures. Late in winter, set a cinder block in the middle of a frozen town pond. Next to it set up a battery-operated clock enclosed in a box to protect it from the elements. Set the box on a wooden pallet that will float. Run a string from the cinder block to the battery in the clock in such a way that when the block falls through the ice it will dislodge the battery and stop the clock. Then sell guesses as to the exact date and time the block will fall through the ice and stop the clock. The person who comes closest to the exact time wins a big sweepstakes jackpot, which is a portion of the money you collected, and your club keeps the rest.

Step Five

Partner with local retailers and restaurants to purchase gift cards at discounts. Then sell the gift cards at face value and keep the difference as your profit. It is a great way for people to help non-profit clubs raise money without really spending anything as they can use the gift card themselves.
