How to Plan a Weekend at the Thames Festival
Introduction
Over 600,000 people enjoyed the Thames Festival in September last year. Situated in the heart of central London, it showcases a host of free activities including the Great River Race, street theatre and workshops, live music, a riverside bazaar, a night carnival and food stalls.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Steps
1
Step One
Check out the Thames Festival website (link below).
2
Step Two
Rejoice. This event is completely free.
3
Step Three
Plan what you want to do. There is music to watch on the street as well as on the stages. Some of the best performing street artists in London can be see all along the river. Dancers from around the world are also invited to perform.
4
Step Four
Watch the night procession. This takes place on the Sunday and leaves from Victoria Embankment. It ends with a 10-minute firework display.
5
Step Five
Plan how to get there. The nearest railway station to the Thames Festival is Victoria and from there you can catch the subway to Embankment. Victoria also has a coach station. If you are driving, check out the AA link below for directions.
6
Step Six
Book accommodation. If you want to stay the weekend, remember London is expensive, particularly around the area where the festival is. The cheapest accommodation will be a hostel; to book a bed go to the tourist information link below.
