How to Plan a Weekend at the Ragley Green Fair

Introduction

If you want to do your bit to help the environment, then Ragley Green Fair is the place to go. This day of eco-friendly, family-oriented fun is held every year during the May Bank holiday on the beautiful grounds of Ragley Hall in Warwickshire.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Steps

1

Step One

Reach Ragley Hall for the Green Fair most easily by car. There is a free car park available and the Hall is 8 miles drives from Stratford-on-Avon, just off the A435/A46. If driving's not an option, you could try taking a train to Evesham, which is the nearest station. A taxi can drop you off at the house.
2

Step Two

Pay the admission fee upon arrival at Ragley Hall. You will have to buy only one ticket to be admitted into the hall, gardens and Green Fair all day. The cost is just under ?£10 for adults and around ?£5 for children. The Ragley Green Fair, Hall and Gardens are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on each day of the Spring Bank Holiday weekend.
3

Step Three

Learn how to be more environmentally friendly at home by watching the displays and demonstrations in the "Greening the Home" area throughout the day. They'll be covering such topics as how to compost your own kitchen waste, how to save energy within the home and how to generate solar power.
4

Step Four

Let the kids enjoy themselves in the "Eco Zone" where they can listening to story-telling sessions, watch puppet shows, have a go on the climbing wall and learn how to make eco-friendly boxes for birds and bats.
5

Step Five

Enjoy one of the relaxing therapies available at the fair, which include Reiki (where energy flows from the practioners hands to your body to produce healing powers), reflexology and meditation classes. You can even try you hand at a little belly dancing, if it takes your fancy!
6

Step Six

Spend, spend, spend at the many Fair Trade and Organic stalls where you can pick up food and gifts to take home with you.
7

Step Seven

Take a look at the impressive Wishing Tree. It's a solar powered tree, covered in UV paint and solar powered lights, with thousands of wishes written on the mirrored card tied to it. You can add your very own wishes.
8

Step Eight

Refresh yourself with a light lunch, roast dinner or cream tea at Ragley Hall's Hooke Restaurant and Coffee House, which is also home to a display donated to the hall by Greenwich Royal Observatory.

Tips & Warnings

  • To reduce the number of cars driving to the Fair, the Ragley Green Fair organises a car pooling system through the Freewheelers association. Check the website to see if someone is travelling from the same location as you. You could share lifts while helping with petrol costs.
  • Don't forget to visit the rest of the House and Gardens whilst you're at the Green Fair. There are 400 acres of parkland, originally landscaped by the famous Capability Brown, and the Hall houses some striking murals and artworks.
