How to Plan a Charity Wedding to Benefit Animals
Introduction
Okay. So you're planning to tie the knot. But you're the couple that has everythinga?|and you don't really need the money either. You'd like to help animals in need. Why not throw a wedding to benefit an animal organization or shelter? Join the "kindness trend"...one of the latest trends in weddings...and make your "special day" all the more special.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Steps
1
Step One
Decide which animal organization or shelter you would like to help. You can even choose more than one. The ASPCA, for instance, will send elegant place cards with their logo for each of your guests, letting them know you made a donation to homeless pets in their name. This could be in lieu of wedding favors.
2
Step Two
Register with a free wedding website such as idofoundation.org. Through this website you can set up a charity registry to benefit your designated non-profit animal organization. The guest makes a direct donation by credit card in lieu of giving a gift. Or if you prefer, you can set up a gift registry through this site with a percentage of each gift going to your chosen organization. Bigger retailers like Target, Linens-N-Things and Cooking.com participate in this program. If you like, you can set up both a charity registry and a gift registry.
3
Step Three
Register with Changing The Present (changinghepresent.org), a gift giving website that allows you to set up registries to benefit animal welfare organizations. Through this site your guests can also sponsor a range of animals including those at farm sanctuaries, wildlife and homeless pets.
4
Step Four
Make the table centerpiece a box or basket of supplies for a local animal shelter. Include items such as treats and toys. You can incorporate the items into a festive and colorful arrangement with ribbons and balloons, or go with a more elegant look and hide the contents.
5
Step Five
Place a box at the entrance of the reception where guests can drop donations such as pet food, supplies, or checks. If the gift donations went to a larger organization, you can give the door donations to a local shelter along with the centerpieces.
Tips & Warnings
- If you prefer that your guests choose the charity, ask them to donate directly to an organization that helps animals and suggest some of your favorites.
- In addition to any web addresses, include the mailing address and phone number of your charity in the invitation. This will make it easier for those guests who don't have Internet access or would prefer to mail a check.
