How to Make a Great Gangsta Rap Playlist for Your iPod
Introduction
Making a solid gangsta rap playlist can take a lot of time and effort but when it is done it is well worth it. It is the gift that can keep on giving everytime play it or share it with others. The most important ingredient to making a solid gangsta rap playlist is the music. My motto is always go with legitmate real gansta's. You want your playlist to have serious "street cred" so your gansta's need to have serious "street cred". The best gangsta's have been shot at many times so rappers like Vanilla Ice just won't do.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You'll Need
- iPod or iPod Nano with lots of storage
- Legally obtained gangsta rap
- High quality MP3's not AAC files
- Anything that Dr. Dre has produced
- Music from legitimate gangsta's like NWA, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, 50 Cent and the Game.
Steps
1
Step One
Building a solid gangsta rap playlist starts with a strong foundation. Be VERY selective about the music you choose for your playlist. I only go with the best and that usually means Dr. Dre is involved in some way. All great gangsta rap starts and ends with Dr. Dre. Whether it is him rapping and providing mad beats during the NWA years or him producing eminem, 50 Cent and the Game, you want his work on your playlist.
2
Step Two
Identify the rest of the talent you want on your playlist. All great gansta rap usually involves 2-3 superstars, 1-2 up and coming stars and someone providing a great hook or background like Nate Dogg.
3
Step Three
Pick a theme for your playlist. Do you want fierce, get pumped workout music? Do you want rainy day mellow music? Do you want the playlist to have a more upbeat and happy fee? (Yes that is possible)
4
Step Four
Now that you have the foundation, talent and theme you need to start picking the songs. I like to make the playlist pretty long (3 hours run time) so when I listen to it again I can start where I left off and still have lots of songs left or shuffle the playlist if I start to get sick of it.
5
Step Five
Pick songs from the late 80's, 90's and 2000. You get the classics as well as the most current music. From the NWA days in the late 80's to Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, Ice Cube and Dr. Dre in the 90's to Eminem and 50 Cent in 2000 and beyond. These are just a handful of the artists that you can choose from. There are many other great ones out there.
6
Step Six
Make sure to include a few tracks from NWA's first two albums (Straight Outta Compton and Efil4zaggin). NWA was a group of fast rising gangsta rap stars, writing about gangsta things, from a gangsta point of view. It does not get more gangsta than this.
7
Step Seven
Also make sure you have some tracks from Dr. Dre, 2Pac, Emimen and Snoop Dogg. Dr. Dre's albums The Chronic and 2001 are packed with some great tracks. Snoop Doog's Doggystyle and the Doggfather have great tracks as well. Can't forget 2Pac and Eminem who both have albumbs packed with hits and agression.
8
Step Eight
Finally, you need some of the newer rappers like 50 Cent and his whole G-Unit crew. Both 50 Cent albums Get Rich or Die Trying and The Massacre have some great tracks. The first G-Unit album is solid and has some great younger rap stars on it like Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo, The Game and Young Buck. The Game's debut album is great. You should definitely add some tracks from that.
Overall Tips & Warnings
- To get the highest qaulity MP3 files rip them from your CD instead of buying online.
- When ripping from CD make sure you choose the highest quality MP3 format you can.
- Make sure to include any parodies of gangsta songs like Dynamite Hack's version of "Boys in the Hood".
- Pirating music or trading it online is illegal. Make sure you buy the CD or buy the music from an online service like iTunes and not from your buddy who got it from some guy he knows from the gym who got it from some dude on limeire or Morpheus.
