How to Make Lutheranism Part of Your Life

Introduction

Lutheranism is a branch of Christianity that shares many of the doctrines with other Christian faiths. Lutherans also believe in the ultimate authority of the bible, and the principle that there is a single Christian faith. These ideas are less prevalent among other Christian churches. If making Lutheranism a part of your life is an appealing prospect, read on!

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Steps

1

Step One

Read about the history and doctrines. "Principles of Lutheran Theology" by Carl E. Braaten is an excellent place to start. Check the Internet for more information (see below). This research will help you in the next step.
2

Step Two

Explain your conversion to family and friends. Rites and tenets differ from faith to faith, and some loved ones will be completely unfamiliar with those of Lutheranism. They are likely to be more accepting of your decision once you clearly explain your reasoning.
3

Step Three

Attend a service. This will give you a good idea of what Lutheranism offers, as the liturgy is fundamental to the faith. This will also give you an opportunity to meet other members of the church.
4

Step Four

Speak to a pastor. He or she will be happy to detail the conversion process and guide you toward all the resources available. They can also highlight any potential obstacles, as well as answer any questions you may have.
5

Step Five

Begin the Confirmation process. Candidates are expected to study, attend services and retreats, participate in service projects and other activities alone and with fellow Confirmands. This process will take a number of months, and is directed at helping you to a??grow intoa?? the church.
6

Step Six

Live your faith. Attend services regularly. Once you are confirmed, you are free to participate in Lutheranism's many sacraments. This will deepen your appreciation of your new faith.

Overall Tips & Warnings

  • Be prepared. Conversion is a time-consuming process, so be sure you have the time and energy to devote to it.
  • Make new friends. The church is a community, and the experience of celebrating your faith is enhanced when done among new friends.
