How to Look Good on a Dance Floor

Introduction

Dancers all want to look good on the dance floor. In addition to specialized skills and abilities, and of course hours and hours of grueling training, dancers need to take a few tips on other aspects of looking good. A dance performance is a complete package, one with not only dancing skills, but costume appearance and partner coordination. Men and women have different positions in dancing and may require different performance advice.

Steps

1

Step One

Make sure your dress fits. If the lines of your under clothes can be seen, your dress is too tight. Wearing black will help to eliminate underclothes lines.
2

Step Two

Wear skin colored fishnet stockings to give the appearance of tighter, toned legs and to cover any small fat deposits (cellulite).
3

Step Three

Purchase a one piece swimsuit to wear under a skirt or dress for turns. You don't want to flash the audience. You want to look good on the dance floor.
4

Step Four

Wear your hair up for a polished look and for the safety of your partner. When you are twirled, long hair will swat your partner in the face and eyes. To keep an uninterrupted routine going, wear your hair up in a bun or French twist.
5

Step Five

Practice all the time. While you are cooking and while you are cleaning are the perfect times to practice certain complex moves to perfection. No one is watching, so go ahead, dance away!

Steps

1

Step One

Wear briefs under your dance clothes. Wearing boxers restricts your leg movements and can ruin an otherwise polished routine.
2

Step Two

Keep your partner close on a crowded dance floor. Resist the urge to fully extend your arms as this will cause a collision with another dance pair.
3

Step Three

Bring a spare cotton undershirt with you. Men tend to sweat a lot while dancing. Before the sweat seeps out on to your dress shirt, you can take a break and change your undershirt in the bathroom.
4

Step Four

Coordinate your solo moves with your partner. There will be times when you will want to excite the crowd with your solo skills. This is a great idea, but if you want to look good on a dance floor, allow your partners' solo moves to complement yours.

Overall Tips & Warnings

  • Always drink water or punch when dancing. You will become dehydrated and too tired to perform if you forget to rehydrate.
  • Avoid rubber soled shoes when you dance. They stick to the floor during turns.
