How to Join the National Book Critics Circle
Introduction
Millions of people dream of becoming a book critic. It is a difficult field to enter that's shrinking by the day. But you can earn some credibility as a book critic by joining the National Book Critics Circle (NBCC) in one of several capacities.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Steps
1
Step One
Apply for membership to the National Book Critics Circle. Application is easy if you visit the organization's website. They request typical application information like your name, address, contact number and email address.
2
Step Two
Choose a level of membership. You can join as a full member, a non-voting associate member for a little less per year or a non-voting student member for even less. You must work as a professional book reviewer to join as a full voting member of the organization.
3
Step Three
Review books. Because the National Book Critics Circle strives to foster quality writing and the respect of quality books, they require that members at all levels submit sample book reviews when applying for membership. They request a list of publications if you freelance and citations of three sample reviews with their corresponding web addresses (if applicable).
4
Step Four
Enjoy the perks of being a National Book Critics Circle member. Members at all levels receive periodic emails from the organization in regards to current campaigns and events. You can also read "The Journal," the NBCC publication online, and members can submit their work for prospective publication.
5
Step Five
Use your new membership to your advantage. As a member of the NBCC you can add the organization to your professional resume and use the membership to enhance your credibility with potential employers and publishing houses.
