How to Introduce a Child to a Babysitter

Introduction

Finding a responsible and trustworthy babysitter can seem impossible at times. Once you do decide to hire a babysitter, you are then required to let your child know about their new caretaker and prepare them for their arrival. It is important to carefully introduce a new babysitter to your child. Read on to learn how.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Steps

1

Step One

Explain to your child about the new babysitting arrangements beforehand. Tell the child a little bit about the babysitter in order to make them feel more comfortable meeting them. If the babysitter has a special interest that will excite your child, share that with them.
2

Step Two

Invite the babysitter over for a trial run. This will give you a chance to observe how the child and the babysitter interact with each other.
3

Step Three

Try to find some common ground between the two of them. If the babysitter enjoys baking and your child has shown an interest in cooking, suggest that the two of them can cook together while you are out.
4

Step Four

Let the babysitter know the favorite games and toys of the child. This way they can develop a secure relationship.
5

Step Five

Treat the babysitter like one of the family. This will help your child feel comfortable around her and also clue the babysitter in on how things work in your family.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't be discouraged if the child does not warm up to the babysitter right away. It takes time for a child to feel comfortable around a new person.
  • Don't forget to give the babysitter any pertinent information about your child. This includes food allergies and the location of emergency medical supplies.
