Proper preparation is essential for safe climbing. You and your partner should check each other's equipment to ensure everything's working properly.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderate
Steps
1
Step One
Check your tie-in knot to make sure it's tied correctly. Also check to see that the knot is passed correctly through your harness.
2
Step Two
Make sure the waist belt of the harness is doubled back through the buckle.
3
Step Three
Take a second look to see that the belay device is properly rigged and that the gate of the locking carabiner, through which the rope is passed, is locked shut.
4
Step Four
Check that the belayer is securely anchored to the ground or cliff, or that the climber is in a position where a fall won't jerk him or her out of position.
