Let your cat swat different objects, many that you can make yourself. Low on funds? Try tying a string to any object, such as a chopstick or straw, then dragging it along the floor or the couch and letting your cat pursue it. Cats also like to swat an empty toilet paper roll, so try attaching feathers, yarn or strips of the crinkly packing material popular today.

Pull out the paper. Shopping bags, newspapers, paper towels, wrapping paper; cats love it all. Wad up some paper and toss it onto the floor. Or just throw a paper bag to the ground and see how many seconds your cat will be able to resist it.

Light up your cat's world, literally. Both flash lights and laser lights will keep your feline active as he or she chases the beams around the room. Be careful not to shine a laser light into your cat's eyes.

Drop a couple of bouncy balls or ping pong balls into your empty bathtub. It will be an excellent way to keep your cat or kitten entertained. Or you could place some ice cubes into the tub and engage your kitty in some bathtub hockey. A big advantage about this is when the cubes melt, the puddles will be in the tub, not on the floor.

Stuff a sock with cotton balls and sprinkle in some cat nip. Tie the sock closed with a shoelace. Most cats go gaga over catnip but if yours doesn't, he or she will still enjoy batting the sock around the floor. Cats also enjoy volleying around a commercial toy, especially fun for them if you hide it under a cushion.
