How to Enjoy a Day at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park

Introduction

Over 500 acres big, Disney's Animal Kingdom is the largest park Disney operates. It is also the most challenging park to maintain, as they strive to care for animals from around the world in their "natural habitats." While the park offers playful, thrilling--and sometimes downright scary--encounters with animals, both real and imaginary, the main theme of the park is conservation. This is an idea near and dear to the heart of Walt Disney himself. A visit to the park is a great way to have fun and learn something all at once.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Steps

1

Step One

Go on a safari. Kilimanjaro Safaris, in the heart of Africa, offers a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with lions, zebras, giraffes and gazelles. Taking up more land than the entire Magic Kingdom, the safari is a must-see.
2

Step Two

Take a trek through the jungle. The pride of the Maharajah Jungle Trek are six beautiful wild tigers. They stay active and stimulated thanks to their expert trainers, who never actually set foot into the tigers' habitat. On the trek you will also see other exotic animals such as Komodo dragons and tapirs.
3

Step Three

Search for the Yeti. Expedition Everest begins as a trip up the mountain but takes an unexpected turn when riders find a piece of track destroyed and must change course. This roller coaster moves backwards, boasts an 80-foot drop and brings you face to face with the big guy himself. Created in conjunction with primatologists, this animatronic marvel is not to be missed.
4

Step Four

Brave the rapids. The Kali River Rapids thrill ride will certainly cool you off on a hot Florida day, but there is a message as well, as you come upon a piece of forest that has been cut and burned. The only way to escape the fire is down the waterfall!
5

Step Five

Travel back in time. The dinosaur ride takes you on a historic adventure, as you board a time machine and come face to face with those big lizards. You will move quickly to escape the jaws of some truly impressive meat-eating beasts, not to mention an asteroid blast!
6

Step Six

Be a bug. Within the impressive Tree of Life, there is a theater teeming with insects. "It's Tough to be a Bug" is more than a 3-D adventure, it's a sensory experience, where you will feel the spray of one bug's "acid," hear and feel the bees buzzing right in your ear and unfortunately even smell the stink bug.
7

Step Seven

Find Nemo. Puppets and live actors come together on a stage large enough to fit three Broadway shows for "Finding Nemo: The Musical." You will feel as though you really are under the sea, and the creatures even move through the audience and fly above your head. The most impressive part of the show? Nigel, the pelican, who is 19-feet long.

Overall Tips & Warnings

  • Take a break from the thrills and chills and take advantage of Disney's unique behind-the-scenes attractions. Watch some of the Animal Kingdom vets in action, visit the endangered turtles tracking center and find out about other conservation efforts.
  • If you are pregnant during your trip to Disney World, you may want to skip an Animal Kindgom visit. Many of the rides, including the very impressive safari, are not recommended for pregnant women.
