Introduction

If you love comic books, chances are you have admired the artistic talent of the artists who draw the characters. You may have even wished you knew how to draw your favorite comic book characters like the pros. Fortunately, learning how to draw comic book characters is not difficult and you do not even need a lot of artistic talent to do it.

Step One

Choose the character or characters you want to draw. These may be your favorite characters or the ones you think will be easiest for you to render on paper.

Step Two

Get out your tracing paper. The easiest way to learn how to draw comic book characters is to trace them. Simply place a sheet of tracing paper over a page in a comic book that features the character you want to draw. Then, trace that character onto the tracing paper. Practice tracing this same character over and over until you think you can do it on your own. Then, try it without tracing. You may be surprised at how well you do.

Step Three

Purchase a good book on drawing comic book characters. Believe it or not, there are lots of books on the topic. A good one to start with is the 'How to Draw Amazing Comic Book Characters Drawing Kit' by Christopher Hart. Books such as this one will take you step by step through the process of drawing well-known comic book characters as well as creating your own. Step Four

Practice with a friend. Learning to draw comic book characters with a friend is not only fun, it is helpful. When you have a friend nearby, you can ask for help with parts of the drawing that are difficult for you and you can also act as sounding boards for each other, critiquing the quality of one another's drawings and pointing out areas for improvement.

Step Five

Take a drawing class. Signing up for a class in basic drawing techniques at your local community college or art school will help you improve the quality and appearance of your comic book characters. It also provides excellent motivation to keep practicing your drawing so you continually get better and better.
