How to Dance

Introduction

Dancing is a fun way to socialize, develop a new skill and get in some exercise. Unfortunately, some people think that even dance lessons can't teach them how to groove. Whatever your reason for wanting to learn how to dance, doing so can improve your mental and physical health.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Steps

1

Step One

Decide why you want to dance. It can be for your wedding, to look good for that special someone at the club or to fulfill your dream of starring in Swan Lake. Whatever your reason, knowing why you want to dance, helps you understand what kind of dance you need to learn.
2

Step Two

Pick the style of dance. Choose from ballroom dance, ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, swing or stepping. There are many other forms of dance out there. Choose the style that fits your needs.
3

Step Three

Take some dance lessons. Find a dance school in your area. See what kinds of dance classes they offer. If they don't have what you are looking for, try the local community college. They often offer a variety of non-credit dance classes.
4

Step Four

Practice. If you want to improve your freestyle moves, get in front of a mirror, turn on the radio and dance in the privacy of your own home. If you are training in a specific style, go to your dance classes and practice at home.
5

Step Five

Try your moves in front of an honest and capable audience. If you can handle the truth, ask them to critique your moves.
6

Step Six

Show off your moves. Get your booty on the dance floor and go for it. If you have been training, take your classes seriously and do your best each class.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your dance class has performance or recitals, take the time to participate in them.
