How to Create a Religion & Spirituality Podcast

Introduction

More convenient and flexible than listening to the radio, podcasts about religion and spirituality can tell stories and provide lessons and inspiration for anyone who has a computer and time to download. Here's how to get one started.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You'll Need

  • microphone
  • computer
  • podcasting software
  • web server

Steps

1

Step One

Plan out how you want to organize your podcast. How often do you want to have an episode? What is the purpose of your podcast? Be creative and open up to discussing all walks of life--family, love, prayer, what different texts teach, the implications of our actions. The most important thing in a podcast like this is to know who your audience is.
2

Step Two

Once you have prepared your podcast, gather your equipment, hook up your microphone to your computer, open up the software program that you are going to use to record. Some simple options are Audacity or GarageBand.
3

Step Three

Once you're prepared, start recording. Keep your voice calm and steady and articulate whie you're speaking. Know when to be passionate and when to be reflective.
4

Step Four

The next step is to edit your podcast and add features. Add chapters so listeners can jump back and forth in between sections if necessary. Add art and/or links so your listeners who can watch on the computer can follow along and click for more information.
5

Step Five

After you're done, put the file onto a server, and then you can take the links and publish them onto your webpage. When you have enough episodes, create an RSS feed for your listeners so they can conveniently subscribe to your podcasts.

Overall Tips & Warnings

  • Music is very important. Make sure you pick out your music wisely, for it sets the tone for a relaxed, thoughtful atmosphere.
  • In the editing process, you can use Ducking to make sure your voice is not drowned out by the music. Ducking automatically lowers the volume of the tracks that you choose as background music.
  • Be responsible.
  • Test your mp3 file to see that it works and that the material on it is satisfactory before you post it.
  • Don't use copyrighted music.
