How to Buy a Used Camera
Introduction
Whether you are an amature photographer looking for a starter camera, or you would like to save money, buying a used camera can have its perks. You might have to to sacrifice a couple of extra features, but if you do your homework, you will have a mechanically-sound used camera in your hands in no time.

Difficulty: Moderate
Steps
1
Step One
Figure out what you want. If you live in a community that doesn't have a camera shop, browsing the Internet is a great way to do research. If you just want a point-and-shoot to take along on vacation, but aren't too picky about things like shutter speed or megapixels, your search can be a lot broader. If you have a specific brand and/or model number in mind, you might get fewer results but won't have to filter through models you won't consider.

Step Two
Find a reputable retailer. Whether you are doing your shopping online or in person, do some research on your dealer. Reading reviews online and asking around your community are good places to start.
3
Step Three
Do a background check on the model you are considering. Make sure "used" doesn't mean "finished." Specific models might have specific problems. Knowing what they are in advance will keep you from buying something that will break for good after you put your money down.

Step Four
Purchase your camera. Be sure to understand the warranties and return policies of the vendor you are buying it from.
