Difficulty: Moderate
Steps
1
Step One
Determine if you meet the minimum requirements for becoming a Six Sigma black belt. If you don't qualify, look into green belt certification as an intermediate step. Black belt program requirements vary, but typically include two completed Six Sigma projects and leadership experience.
2
Step Two
Take a black belt training program. Training sessions are offered full time for about two weeks, over the course of a semester or online.
3
Step Three
Study the material, or body of knowledge, and take the test. Some certifications end here. Others require you to complete a black belt project.
4
Step Four
Work with your management team, Six Sigma Master black belts and area experts to identify a black belt project. You will direct the efforts of some green belts to complete this process. You may want to help managers who are involved use a portion of your project to get their green belt certification. They will have a vested interest in the success of the project if their certification is on the line.

Step Five
Complete your project. Once it is finished keep an eye on it to ensure the improvements are maintained.
