Step One

Practice recycling. Being more environmentally conscious at home begins with recycling waste products.

Change your light bulbs. Compact florescent light bulbs use up to 80 percent energy than incandescent bulbs, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, which in turn, leads to the reduction of greenhouse gases.

Switch to cold water for laundry. Cold water washes clothes just as effectively as hot or warm water and uses less energy. There are new laundry detergents made specifically for cold-water washing, but regular detergent works just fine.

Conserve water. Do not run the water while brushing your teeth. Only wash full loads of dishes and laundry, and fix all faucet leaks.
