How to Balance Work, Play and School in Summer
Introduction
Summer's for fun, right? Ah, but it can also be for work and maybe even school. If you find yourself needing to juggle school, work and play, it's a good idea to make some strategic moves and build some helpful habits.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately challenging
Steps
1
Step One
Plan your school and work schedules as far ahead of time as possible in order to avoid time conflicts.
2
Step Two
Arrange your classes, if you can, so that you don't have to go to campus more than once a day.
3
Step Three
Try to get a job close to campus (or home).
4
Step Four
Use time efficiently. Pick up a book if you're caught waiting on the phone or at a bus stop. If you have down time at work and this is allowed, use the time to do schoolwork. If you use public transit to commute, do schoolwork on the way.
5
Step Five
Set aside at least one day a week for play. This will keep you sane.
6
Step Six
Study outside as often as you can - it may feel like play even if, technically, it isn't.
Tips & Warnings
- If it's at all possible to avoid doing both - work and school - then try to avoid it. Summer school is often condensed and intense, and summer should be a relaxing time.
- Contact the student services office at your school. The professionals there will have advice that fits your needs.
