How to Avoid Ticketmaster When Buying New Orleans Jazz Fest Tickets

Introduction

Ticketmaster basically has a monopoly on ticket sellinga??so much so that Pearl Jam took them to task, and to court. The New Orleans Jazz Fest is no exception. Up on the New Orleans Jazz Fest site (www.nojazzfest.com) they recommend buying tickets from Ticketmaster. There are other places to find tickets, which wona??t have the same service charge.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You'll Need

  • Internet access
  • Cash
  • Credit card
  • An eye for scalpers

Steps

1

Step One

Buy tickets at the gate. Keep in mind that ticket prices go up ten dollars the day of the Jazz Fest.
2

Step Two

Check Ebay. Careful, therea??s a fine line between a high bid and scalping. Ita??s perfectly legal to buy tickets on Ebay, but there are unscrupulous people out there. Check their user ratings.
3

Step Three

Check Craigslist. Craigslist is growing as a place for people to unload all sorts of stuff. Dona??t just check New Orleans Craigslist. Check your city as well (if you dona??t live in NOLA) so you can buy the tickets in person.
4

Step Four

Check forumsa??Jazz Fest forums, music festival forums, and the like. You may find people looking to unload tickets.
5

Step Five

Check Stubhuba??another Ebay-like site where people bid on an item.
6

Step Six

Online ticket brokers. Some of these can be more expensive than Ticketmaster tickets plus the service charge. Some are reasonable.

Overall Tips & Warnings

  • All of these tips apply to people looking to unload tickets if something has come up and you cana??t attend the Fest.
  • There are a number of sites online advertising Jazz Fest tickets, but these sites will often link to Ticketmaster.
  • Scalping is wrong. Dona??t support it by buying scalped tickets and definitely dona??t scalp tickets yourself.
  • If youa??re buying from a less-than-reputable source, watch out for counterfeit tickets.
