How to Add a Tripod Mount to a Holga 120 Camera

Introduction

120S was the first Holga camera model. It was appreciated for its affordability and simple construction. There were a few drawbacks, however. One of the deficiencies was the lack of a tripod mount. The 120S has since been discontinued. Today's models, such as the 120N, come equipped with a tripod mount. If you own a Holga 120S and are not considering an upgrade, you can craft your own tripod mount.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Steps

1

Step One

Locate your construction materials. Epoxy and quarter-twenty nuts are readily available at most hardware stores.
2

Step Two

Put some epoxy on the quarter-twenty nut, being careful not to get any onto the threads.
3

Step Three

Hold the nut to the bottom center of the Holga until the epoxy dries and the nut stays in place.
4

Step Four

Add some extra epoxy to the outside of the nut to help keep it in place.
5

Step Five

Mount your Holga onto any tripod that has a standard screw.

Tips & Warnings

  • There is a similar method which involves drilling a hole into the bottom of the Holga and using the epoxy to nestle the threaded nut into the hole.
  • In addition to long exposure, a tripod mount will be necessary if you plan on making pinhole modifications to your Holga.
  • Black epoxy will reduce the unsightliness of your modification. If you cannot find black epoxy, you can use black spray paint after the tripod mount is dried and in place.
