Introduction
Looking for a better education? Want to get a better job? I think we all do. A good solution for me was to take the GMAT and go to business school. Here's some free advice on what the GMAT is all about.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderate
Things You'll Need
- Kaplan or Princeton review books.
- Time
- Calculator
- Honesty with yourself
Steps
1
Step One
Study your target schools and what scores they will be expecting. This will set your benchmark.
2
Step Two
Princeton and Kaplan both provide good test guides, go with either or both. You may think it's expensive, but it's pretty much a non-factor when you realize that you'll be spending another $50,000 on school anyway, so another few bucks isn't going to matter. Plus, it can only help.
3
Step Three
You can take online courses, classes, get private tutoring and instruction. All of those things are good, especially for the Writing sections of the test because you there is no answer key to tell you how you did.
4
Step Four
Take the math and verbal sections over and over and over. Don't cheat yourself and kid around thinking you are smarter than you are by taking extra time, looking at the answers while you're taking the practice exams, etc.
5
Step Five
Take the exam PLENTY of time before admissions. It will help you narrow down your choices, and grad school applications can take a long time. You don't want to miss out because you took the test too late.
6
Step Six
My belief is that if you aren't scoring 70th percentile or higher on your practice exams, you are not ready for the test. Getting a low score will send you to the bottom tier of schools. While education is always good, this may not be in your best interests for the long term.
Overall Tips & Warnings
- Spend the money to get good tutoring and help.
- Take the test early.
- Focus on your weaknesses AND your strengths, neither should be neglected.
- It's very competitive. Don't slack off because your competition won't be.
