Things You'll Need

  • the actual portfolio book
  • professional standard book 9"-12" black in color
  • with clear sleeves for photographs
  • contact list of photograpehrs

Steps

Step One

call the photographers on your list
you can compile a lists from calling local modeling agencies and talent agencies for the photographers that they work with, call local advertising agencies for referrals
ask friends and family for referrals of photographers that have worked with or know have a good reputation

Step Two

call photography studio
set appointment
show up for appointment on time
you and the photographer will discuss what your needs are for your portfolio
set time for photo shoot that works for both parties

Step Three

going back to studio or location decided on at consultation with photographer
doing photo shoot as discussed
after photographers are taking and developed
you will meet again with the photographer to discuss what photos should go into your portfolio
you will be given a contact sheet for discussion with managers, or talent or modeling agencies to decided what is best if you have representation
with each photo shoot or "test" you will add photographs to your portfolio

Overall Tips & Warnings

  • be on time for all consultations and photo shoots
  • rest well before the shoot so that you are at your best
  • make sure your comfortable with your body and skin before a shoot
  • be sure to discuss and understand everything that will be involved in your shoot.
  • Have Fun!
  • make sure you have solid referrals on photographers who you choose to work with
  • if you are under l8 go to studio with a parent or guardian
  • if you are over l8 go to studio with a friend or family member
  • make sure that what is involved in shoot is clearly explained to you
  • shooting a portfolio is great fun just be careful and pay attention to who you are shooting with
