Introduction
Sensational gossip tabloids like the Star and the National Enquirer are the granddaddies of show biz dirt and tales from the fringes of humanity. Their focus on celebrities in recent years has obscured the fact that tabloids also carry stories about such creatures as Bat boy and the Loch Ness Monster. So if you want to write for a tabloid, there's always Bigfoot if Paris Hilton isn't your cup of tea.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderate
Things You'll Need
- Digital Camera
- Blackberry
Steps
1
Step One
Go where the action is. If you are interested in covering celebrities, hang out in Hollywood, New York, London or wherever a major film is in production or stars are partying.
2
Step Two
Be a tech geek. Know how to use digital cameras and recorders and always carry them with you.
3
Step Three
Find a niche. There are Weekly World News type articles about UFOs or strange creatures. Tales of heroism, amazing weight loss and people overcoming tremendous odds have always been a tabloid staple. Study how your favorite stories are written, noting everything from vocabulary and word count to pacing.
4
Step Four
Develop your own writing style. Whether you are fashioning celebrity gossip or writing about Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster, remember there are many other writers trying to do the same thing. By adopting you own style, whether it be witty, risqu?? or snarky, you'll stand out from other aspiring tabloid writers.
5
Step Five
Tell the truth. Celebrities are under a microscope and, of course, all kinds of rumors abound about many of them. After all, celebrities do some pretty crazy things on their own, often crazier than anything a writer could concoct, so resist the urge to embellish.
