Introduction

A simple thank you note can be a classy way to seal that job interview or stay in touch with someone you care about. However, with today's email savvy generation, a hand written thank you card has gone the way of the typewriter. Follow the steps below to show your appreciation the old fashioned way.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Steps

1

Step One

Organize your supplies beforehand. Set up an area where pens, paper, envelopes, stamps and any other materials you need are accessible. This will make it easy to write the note and less likely that you will put off the task.
2

Step Two

Sit down as soon as the thought hits you. Delaying your action may cause you to get a wild hair for spring cleaning and avoid writing the note all together.
3

Step Three

Start the note off by greeting them by name. For instance: a??Hey!a?? and a??What's up?a?? or no greeting at all are not acceptable and will put the reader off. Instead start off with a a??Dear Aunt Ester.a?? This is simple, personal and to the point.
4

Step Four

Thank them for their gift or service. For example: a??Thank you for the purple sweater,a?? or a??Thank you for helping me through a rough time.a?? These sentences should leave no doubt in the giver's mind that you received their personal gift.
5

Step Five

Tell them how their gift will be put to use or was helpful. Write: a??Your sweater will be put to good use this winter,a?? or a??Your guidance enabled me to stand up for myself.a??
6

Step Six

Write about your relationship. This is where you add a little personal touch telling them briefly how much they mean to you. If the note is for a person you do not have this sort of bond with, simply tell them how much you appreciated the gift. Say: a??I am so grateful that you thought of me this Christmas.a??
7

Step Seven

Thank them again briefly, give your regards and sign the card. For example: "Thanks again for the wonderful gift. With love this Christmas, Bill."
