Introduction

For anyone interested in attending a reputable business school, it is essential to pass the GMAT exam with your best score possible. There are many variables that go into taking this important test, but with enough preparation you will be confident about your odds of passing with flying colors. Here are tips.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Steps

1

Step One

Start studying as early as possible. Purchase a study guide that includes a CD with either interactive components or access to online supplements. This will help train you to answer questions on a computer screen, which is how the GMAT is administered. If possible, sign up for a professional course.
2

Step Two

Take a practice test. Though you can't duplicate the experience of taking the actual exam, completing a practice test can help target your ability to complete the questions within a certain timeframe.
3

Step Three

Allow yourself plenty of rest on the night before the test. Many people assume that cramming will help keep the material fresh in their minds. However, this will only cause unnecessary worry and may actually reverse your understanding of what you have been studying all these months.
4

Step Four

Bring all the necessary documents to the testing site. Administrators are clamping down on fraud and now require that you provide many forms of identification along with asking you to empty your pockets. The heightened security is ultimately for your benefit, so don't let it frustrate you.
5

Step Five

Stay aware of the time while taking the exam. You are given a limited opportunity to complete each of the three sections of the GMAT (written, quantitative and verbal), and you will be shut out of the program if you aren't finished. Be especially cautious in the written portiona??you are given thirty minutes to complete each essay but outlining and spell checking your final document can eat up important time.
6

Step Six

Pay attention to the difficulty level of the questions as you progress through the exam. The computerized GMAT is designed to make up for lost time or incorrect answers by popping up easier questions. If you aren't moving up in difficulty, you either need to double-check your work before answering or quickly reassess your time management strategy.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't panic. You will probably be nervous on the day of the exam, but staying as focused as possible on the material will help maximize your score.
  • Whatever you do, refrain from cheating. Not only are you risking legal action, you may also permanently spoil your chances of getting into the business school of your choice.
