Introduction

Diamonds are best shown against a black background to show off their sparkle.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You'll Need

  • Black velvet cloth
  • a board or piece of cardboard
  • tape or thumb tacks
  • dish soap such as Joy
  • old tooth brush
  • paper towels

Steps

1

Step One

Clean the diamonds thoroughly to show off their sparkle. Soaking them in dish soap such as Joy does a very good job. If they are very dirty you can use an old toothbrush to clean them off. Rinse and wipe with a paper towel.
2

Step Two

Either tape or tack the velvet to a board to keep it still and flat. Try to smooth the wrinkles out.
3

Step Three

Place the cleaned diamonds on the velvet and angle the lighting to get the most sparkle. Try to get other reflective materials out of the way so you don't influence the colors. In jewelry stores, where I have worked, the lighting is straight down from the ceiling focused on the stones. We always placed them on a black, velvet cloth to show their best facets and sparkle.
4

Step Four

If you want to show the jewelry on a person, have them wear a black shirt for the same affect. It does not have to be velvet but that is a nice touch if you have it.
