Introduction

Stack paper cutters are designed to quickly cut through hundreds of sheets of paper. These machines are available in different cutting lengths (or blade lengths) a?? so it is very important to know the largest sheet size you will cut. You will also need to know how many sheets or reams of paper you need to cut before purchasing a stack paper cutter. Last, make sure you have established a budget. A quality stack cutter costs at least $800.00.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Steps

1

Step One

What is the largest size paper you will need to cut? Is it 8.5'' x 11'' letter size? 8.5'' x 14'' legal size? Or 11'' x 17'' paper size? Stack paper cutters have blade lengths ranging from 12'' to 18 3/4''

Step Two

Find out how many sheets of paper you want to cut at once. Do you need to cut a full ream of paper (500 sheets)? If you are using heavy paper weight, such as 80 pound paper or cardstock, then use a ruler or measuring tape to measure the height of the stack of paper. Say the height is 2'', then you want a stack cutter that can cut at least 2'' of paper material.

Stack Cutter with Ergonomic Support

How many cuts do you need to make per stack of paper? If you are cutting business cards, then you may need to cut as many as 5 or 10 times per stack! This means you will push the blade lever down many times for just for one stack of paper. If you tire quickly or have difficulty operating machinery, choose a paper cutter with ergonomic support. There are some paper cutters that have a very simple cutting lever which is easier to operate for some people.

Programmable Automatic Paper Cutter

Depending on the volume of paper or number of cuts you need to make, you might want to consider a semi-automatic or fully automatic paper cutter. Some companies even offer programmable electric cutters. This makes life easier since you can program how far you want the blade to cut the paper. For example, if you want to cut 4'' from the top of the sheets, you can program the back gauge to move in until the blade is right at 4''.
Keep in mind that if your business grows, then you will probably need a more commercial paper cutter. In this case, it a very good idea to go with a semi-automatic or fully automatic cutting machine.
