Introduction

VersaMail provides functionality that's similar to your computer's email program. You can read, reply, and organize messages in much the same way. Still, some of VersaMail's details differ from your computer's email program. Follow these steps to learn how to check your email with your Treo.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Steps

1

Step One

Click the "New" button to begin writing a new message or click the "Reply" or "Fwd" buttons while reading a message. Steps 2 through 4 tell you what to do when you're ready to send your email when your Treo's offline, in its cradle or networked.
2

Step Two

OFFLINE: Click the "Outbox" button to save the message in the outbox until you next connect. If you press the "Send" button, the Palm will attempt to initiate a connection, which is bothersome if you're not physically connected to the Internet.
3

Step Three

CRADLE: Click the "Outbox" button. Since the cradle does not maintain a persistent connection, it behaves as if you were OFFLINE.
4

Step Four

NETWORKED: Click the "Send" button. The message will be sent immediately.

Overall Tips & Warnings

  • You can operate a Palm in three network connection modes. The connection mode affects the way VersaMail operates.
  • If you plan to use only the "Cradle" connection mode, you can set your VersaMail "Sort Once" account as a "Synchronize Only" account. This will remove some of the menu items which apply only to a "Networked" connection. Most importantly, VersaMail will not try to connect to the Internet (which can be bothersome) if you accidentally tap certain menu items or buttons.
  • In all cases, doing a "Get Mail" (by tapping the "Get Mail" button) or a HotSync operation does more than just download new messages. It also sends any messages that are waiting in your outbox, moves any "Sort Once" messages that you moved to folders on your Palm, and deletes any "Sort Once" messages you have deleted on your Palm.
  • Be sure your desktop computer is connected to the Internet when doing a HotSync. If it's not, no messages will be downloaded and no warnings will be given by VersaMail or the HotSync software.
  • You cannot download mail while offline.
