Introduction
Gas prices can move up or down on a daily basis. The demand for gas increases as the supply of gas in this country decreases. Because of this, it is smart for us, as consumers, to find ways to decrease our use of gasoline and be more aware of the resources we use when it comes to driving our car. Driving economically helps to stay within a budget. Plan ahead, carpool and think of other ways to be more economical.
Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Steps
1
Step One
Plan ahead. Never head out the door without knowing exactly where to go. Planning ahead will save time and money. The more time it takes for you to find a destination, the more gas your car will use.
2
Step Two
Share a ride to work with a co-worker. The more people you can get involved in this, the less gas you will have to use. This is definitely a good way to save a lot of gas money.
3
Step Three
Ride the bus to work if you are in a larger metropolitan area that has a good bus system. Bus transportation is offered in many cities, and transit agencies offer riding passes for a flat monthly fee.
4
Step Four
Carpool with other parents to your kids' activities, including school, lessons, sports and birthday parties.
5
Step Five
Order your food inside the restaurant instead of going through the drive-through. You waste a lot of gas by waiting in a drive-through line. If you go to these places a lot, you can save a lot of gas over the course of the year.
6
Step Six
Decrease fuel consumption by the way you drive. Stay at or slightly below the speed limit and coast to a stop as much as you can to save gas.
7
Step Seven
Change your oil regularly, keep your tires inflated and keep excess junk out of your car and trunk to maximize your fuel efficiency. A well-maintained engine is a well-performing engine.
Overall Tips & Warnings
- Consider a fuel-efficient car or hybrid the next time you purchase a vehicle. They can save you a lot of money on gas over the course of the lifetime of the vehicle.
- Carpool with people you trust. If someone you do not know very well wants to get involved in a carpool, be sure to have at least one other person you trust in the car with you.
