Discussing politics is a way to express personal opinion and to try to persuade others to believe the same as you. It can also be a helpful way to create awareness of multiple viewpoints on social issues. You can discuss politics in person with your peers, but there are also websites that offer people an open forum to discuss political issues. With different beliefs from person to person, politics should always be discussed respectfully, keeping other philosophies in mind.

Step One
Visit the Political Forum website.

Step Two
Read through the political issue categories and click on the one that you are interested in discussing.

Step Three
Click on a topic within that political issue category that you would like to discuss.

Step Four
Read all of the posts that have already been made on the topic. Post a reply to get into the current discussion on that specific topic.

Step Five
State your political opinion firmly when replying to a post on the political issue.

Step Six
Wait for somebody to reply to your post. When they do, read it and offer your rebuttal opinion to the other person's beliefs.

Step Seven
Continue to debate back and forth through postings on the forum.

Step Eight
Make convincing arguments through your posts to persuade the other person to believe the same as you do on the political topic.
Tips & Warnings
- Many people's social beliefs stem from one of the two major political parties in the U.S., either the Democratic Party or the Republican Party. When discussing politics, it is helpful to know which party each person supports, because this will give you a generalized understanding of where their belief systems may be stemming from.
- If there are no topics that you are interested in debating within the category you choose, you can start a new topic by clicking on the "New Topic" button at the bottom of the page. Creating a new topic allows you to bring up an issue that you would like to discuss and to debate the issue's political merits.
